Volkswagen Just Teased An Electric Beetle... For The Movies

A teaser for an upcoming animated film may have just given us our first glimpse at the all-electric Beetle. The Volkswagen Beetle was discontinued a few years ago due to ever-slowing sales.

The electric VW Beetle was spotted in a teaser for the upcoming animated movie - Miraculous: Ladybug & Cat Noir. Those looking to catch a glimpse of the electric Beetle can do so by watching it in theatres or on Netflix next month.

The electric Beetle is the ride for one of the movie's leads - Ladybug, a modern character who stands for female empowerment. The bug in the name is another nod to the beetle, which earned that nickname from its fans.

The electric Beetle is finished in a rather brilliant shade of red. The wheels of the electric beetle are at the edges of the car. The sense of space inside the electric Beetle is quite big thanks to what appear to be full glass windows and a glass roof.

However, this is not the first time that Volkswagen has hinted at an all-electric Beetle. The first sniff we got about a Beetle EV came back in 2014 when Volkswagen released the E-Bugster concept.

The VW E-Bugster concept featured a 114bhp electric motor and a range of 177km from a 28.3kWh battery pack. The E-Bugster was wider and lower than the Beetle of the time and drove around on 20-inch wheels.

The next time the rumours of an all-electric Volkswagen Beetle surfaced was in 2017 when the German firm started revealing its plans for EVs and started showing off electric concepts one of which ended up as the all-electric version of the iconic VW van.

Thoughts About The VW Beetle EV

Volkswagen's latest teaser about an all-electric Beetle has set alight the hearts and minds of VW bug fans around the world. Whether or not, this electric bug makes its way from an animated screen near you to the roads is something that will be discussed in Beetle forums and groups around the world for quite a while.

Who knows, if there is enough interest, the VW Bug may just make it onto our streets once again, this time with an electric powertrain.
