Triumph Scrambler 400 X Vs Yezdi Scrambler Vs Royal Enfield Scram 411 – Battle Of The Scramblers

British two-wheeler manufacturer Triumph revealed the Scrambler 400 X and the motorcycle does look very attractive. That being said, the new Triumph Scrambler 400 X still has to compete against the likes of other scrambler-type motorcycles such as the Royal Enfield Scram 411 and the Yezdi Scrambler.

As such, here is a quick specifications comparison between the new Triumph Scrambler 400 X, Royal Enfield Scram 411, and Yezdi Scrambler motorcycles. This comparison will be on the basis of design, powertrain, suspension setup, brakes, and tyres.

Design

Starting with the design, the new Triumph Scrambler 400 X looks the most premium with its more sophisticated hardware bits and 'Triumph' design elements. On the other hand, the Royal Enfield Scram 411 and Yezdi Scrambler are good-looking motorcycles, but they do look a bit 'vanilla' in comparison.

Powertrain

The Royal Enfield Scram 411 packs in a 411cc, air-cooled, SOHC, fuel-injected engine. Despite being the biggest engine, this engine produces just 24.3bhp at 6,500rpm and 32Nm of peak torque at 4,500rpm, and this engine comes mated to a 5-speed transmission.

On the other hand, the Yezdi Scrambler is powered by a more advanced yet smaller 334cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC engine. This engine is tuned to produce 28.7bhp at 8,000rpm and 28.2Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm. The motorcycle also sports a 6-speed gearbox with slip and assist clutch.

Finally, the new Triumph Scrambler 400X uses an all-new 398.15cc, liquid-cooled, 4-valve, DOHC engine with 39.5bhp at 8,000rpm and 37.5Nm of torque at 6,500rpm. Also, like the Yezdi, the Triumph also features a 6-speed gearbox with slip and assist clutch.

Chassis & Suspension

The Royal Enfield Scram 411 is equipped with a Half-Duplex frame and comes with a telescopic front suspension with 190mm wheel travel and a mono-shock setup at the rear with 180mm wheel travel.

In comparison, the Yezdi Scrambler is equipped with a double-cradle frame and uses telescopic front suspension with 150mm wheel travel and dual gas-charged shocks at the rear with 130mm wheel travel.

The new Triumph Scrambler 400X features more advanced 43mm USD forks at the front with 150mm wheel travel. Furthermore, the Triumph features a gas-charged monoshock with an external reservoir at the rear with a wheel travel of 150mm.

Tyres

The Royal Enfield Scram 411 comes with off-road friendly 19-inch spoked wheels at the front shod with 100/90 section tyres, whereas the rear sports 17-inch spoked wheels wrapped in 120/90 section tyres. Moreover, the Royal Enfield Scram 411 also sports more off-road-worthy Ceat Gripp tyres.

The Yezdi Scrambler on the other hand also comes with 19-inch spoked wheels at the front shod with 100/90 section tyres, whereas the rear sports 17-inch wheels wrapped in wider 140/70 section tyres.

Finally, the new Triumph Scrambler 400X uses Metzeler Karoo Street tyres at both ends measuring 100/90 R19 at the front and 140/80 R17 at the rear. However, unlike the other two motorcycles, the Triumph Scrambler 400X features alloy wheels at both ends.

Brakes

In terms of braking hardware, both the Yezdi Scrambler and the new Triumph Scrambler 400X come equipped with a single 320mm disc brake at the front. In contrast, the Royal Enfield Scram 411 comes equipped with a smaller 300mm disc brake.

At the rear, both the Yezdi Scrambler and the Royal Enfield Scram 411 come equipped with a 240mm disc brake. In comparison, the Triumph Scrambler 400X sports a slightly smaller 230mm disc brake at the rear.

Thoughts About The Triumph Scrambler 400 X, Royal Enfield Scram 411 & Yezdi Scrambler

The Royal Enfield Scram 411 is basically an off-road motorcycle that has been given a more tarmac-friendly makeover by the manufacturer, whereas the Yezdi Scrambler is based on a more road-biased motorcycle. This difference is clearly visible in the specs and we expect this difference to amplify on the road.

That being said, the new Triumph Scrambler 400X also takes a similar route as the Yezdi Scrambler. Paired with powerful engines and a 6-speed gearbox, both these motorcycles offer excellent touring capability as well. However, it is the Scram 411 that is more suited to tackle harsher terrains.
