Spy Pics: Toyota Innova Hycross Spotted Testing
The next-gen Innova, expected to carry the Toyota Innova Hycross nameplate in India, was spotted testing on Indian roads ahead of its global debut next month.
The test mule of the Innova Hycross was spotted driving on the roads in Bangalore and showcases the upcoming MPV in all its glory, albeit disguised by heavy camo on the outside.
The new video also gives us a first look at what the interiors of the new Toyota Innova Hycross will look like when the MPV arrives in India next year. The video gives us a glimpse at a centrally mounted freestanding infotainment display. The rectangular touchscreen unit looks quite different from Toyota's current offering on the Hyryder.
The spy video also gave us a peek at the Innova Hycross MPVs taillights which feature a mix of LED and halogens. The test mule seen on the video also seems to be riding on what appears to be a set of large alloy wheels, suggesting that the vehicle on test is a higher-spec model of the upcoming Innova Hycross.
To find the big changes on the Innova Hycross, you'll have to go more than skin deep. The new Innova Hycross brings major mechanical changes to the MPV in the form of a new monocoque chassis compared to the current Innova's ladder-on-frame setup.
This should help the new Innova Hycross shed the pounds when it arrives next year while also ensuring that the new MPV will be a lot safer than before. The new monocoque setup is based on Toyota's flexible TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform.
The arrival of the new Hycross will also see the Innova platform switch over to front-wheel drive. The current Innova Crysta and the models before have all featured a rear-wheel drive setup.
The biggest change on the upcoming Innova Hycross will come under the bonnet of the MPV. The Innova Hycross will be ditching the current Crysta's petrol and diesel-powered setups for a petrol-electric hybrid system similar to the ones seen on the new Hyryder SUV, Camry sedan and Vellfire MPV.
The new Toyota Innova Hycross is expected to feature a 2.0-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine along with electric motors. These will provide the extra instant oomph to push the MPV forward quicker while also helping out with fuel efficiency numbers to make up for the loss of the diesel powertrain. We expect Toyota to feature a heavily localised hybrid setup to ensure that prices of the new Innova Hycross do not skyrocket when it arrives next year.
Thoughts About The Upcoming Toyota Innova Hycross
The upcoming Toyota Innova Hycross will change the game for one of the most recognisable vehicles in the Indian market today. With its hybrid powertrain, monocoque chassis and switch to FWD, the new Innova Hycross will change the way you view the Innova..
