Reise Moto TrailR Tyre Review - Off-Piste Grip Monster

A few months ago, tyre manufacturer Mahansaria Tyres introduced the nation to a new brand new of tyres under the brand name Reise Moto in collaboration with European marque Mitas.

Gujarat-based Mahansaria Group will be producing tyres for the Czech marque Mitas at its plant Bharuch alongside the new ones under the Reise name. However, that's not why the new Reise Moto tyre lineup sent tongues wagging in the enthusiast community.

Mitas, for those not in the know, was founded back in 1933 as a subsidiary of Michelin in Prague, the capital of the country then known as Czechoslovakia as Pneumichelin.

The Mitas name came into being when the marque entered the world of motorsports in 1947 by building tyres for speedway racing bikes. Over the years, the Czech brand has committed to pushing the boundaries of tyre development in motorsports. Mitas is best known these days as one of the marques used by riders to race the gruelling Dakar Rally, considered to be the world's toughest rally.

Reise Moto, in December, revealed a whole range of tyres suitable for both bikes and scooters currently running about in the Indian market. These tyres include 4 styles of rubber for bikes ranging from the dual-purpose trailR to the everyday troopR and two different sets of tyres for scooters.

Reise Moto recently conducted a ride for the dual-purpose TrailR tyres, the most extreme of the new tyre lineup in Lonavala and we jumped at the chance to see for ourselves if this new marque would live up to the racing DNA of its European backers or if it was just another regular offering for riders in India.

Reise Moto TrailR Riding Specs & Riding Impressions - Off-Piste Adventures

Our test ride of the new Reise TrailR tyres took place at the off-road course at Adventure Square (previously 19-degree North) in Lonavala. Reise Moto had fitted the new TrailR tyres to the Royal Enfield Himalayan. The front wheel was fitted with a 90/90-21 tyre while the rear sported a 120/90-17 tyre.

To say that the Himalayan may just have been the best way to experience the off-road course at Adventure Square. The off-road course threw everything you would find when going off the beaten path at us including loose sand and gravel, rolling rocks, sharp inclines and descents, jumps and trails.

The Himalayan fitted with Riese Moto's trailR tyres came out with flying colours as the dual-purpose tyres showed their off-roading ability to the fullest in Lonavala. The off-roading course kicked off with sections of loose sand and gravel with sweeping fast corners and tight corners.

The trailR tyres sailed through this section with the wider footprint and stiff carcass helped with high-speed traction and helped the Himalayan hold its line with ease while the tyre's directional crossover blocks slowed the bike down quickly every time we dabbed the brakes before sliding through fast turns or to slow down for the sharper, slow ones.

The way the trailR tyres helped us on the Himalayan to hold our line while carrying the slide without loosing the rear end still boggles us and left us scratching our heads at this European-Gujarati magical rubber concoction draped on our wheels.

After a bit of speed, sliding and jumps we made our way into the rougher trail section of the course which featured quite a few inclines and declines and some rather stodgy and sizeable rocks for about half a kilometre of tyre torture.

Despite the terrain throwing its worst at us, the trailR shrugged off the pressure with ease with its block pattern showing off its off-roading potential to the fullest. Both the front and rear trailR tyres fitted to our Himalayan gripped whatever was available in the way a frantic toddler grips its mother's arms which along with the RE's low end torque allowed us to glide over stones, rocks and everything else as we conquered the off-roading trail at Lonavala.

Final Thoughts About The Reise Moto trailR Dual-Purpose Tyre - Off-Piste Grip Monster

We got to test the Reise Moto trailR tyres only at the off-roading course but from what we've experienced, these tyres really do have a go-anywhere attitude that should make them a very good option for those looking to go off the beaten path.

However, given the dual-purpose nature of these tyres, we would love to test the Reise Moto trailR tyres on the tarmac and in wet weather conditions. Stay tuned as we may have something cooking to answer that question soon.
