Modi To Meet Musk On US Trip - New Giga Deal?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the United States will see him meet with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. The world's richest man, Musk, will meet Modi in New York, where the Indian PM will lead a Yoga session at the UN Secretariat.
Musk is among a list of business leaders, Nobel laureates, economists and entrepreneurs that the Prime Minister will meet during his official visit to the United States.
However, Musk's meeting with Modi is one that has set tongues wagging in the EV enthusiast community here in India. Musk was asked in a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal if India was an interesting place to set up a new Giga factory. His answer was 'absolutely'.
In the same interview, Musk stated that he would reveal the location of the next Tesla Giga Factory by the end of the year. Hopefully, Musk's meeting with Modi could set the ball rolling for India to get the Giga Factory gig.
Recent reports have suggested that the world's leading EV manufacturer was closer than ever to bringing its brand of electric vehicles to our shores. The report suggested that Tesla had agreed in principle to start local assembly in India and set up a vendor base in the country.
The report stated that the Indian Government had told Tesla to submit a roadmap. This would show how much time it would take for the American electric carmaker to set up a local supply network.
However, this isn't the first time that Tesla has gotten close to setting up shop here in India. The worldwide EV leader a few years ago was testing out its cars here in India before things fell apart.

The Prime Minister's visit to the United States is one that's about big milestones. EV fans here in India will be hoping the meeting between PM Modi and Tesla boss Elon Musk finally gives us some good news about the American EV marque's entry into India.
