MG Comet EV Vs Tata Tiago EV – Price, Powertrain, Range, Charging, & Dimensions
MG Motor recently launched the much-awaited MG Comet EV small electric car in India at an aggressive introductory price. In fact, the MG Comet EV is currently the most affordable electric car in India.
Though MG Motor India has created a new segment in the Indian automobile market with the launch of the MG Comet EV electric car, the Tata Tiago EV continues to be its closest rival. As such, here's a quick comparison between these EVs.
Powertrain: Starting with the MG Comet EV, the newly launched small electric car is powered by a rear-axle-mounted electric motor capable of producing 41.4bhp of power and 110Nm of torque. Furthermore, the Comet EV comes with a 17.3kWh battery pack.
In comparison, the base variant of the Tata Tiago EV comes with a 60bhp electric motor with 105Nm of torque. Also, the battery pack size on this variant is rated at 19.2kWh. However, higher variants sport a more powerful 74bhp electric motor and a bigger 24kWh battery pack.
Range: The MG Comet EV can do 230 kilometres on a fully charged battery pack. On the other hand, the base variant of the Tata Tiago EV can do 250 kilometres on a fully charged battery pack, whereas the top-spec variant is claimed to do 315 kilometres.
Charging: According to MG Motor, the MG Comet EV can charge to 80 per cent capacity in just 5 hours using a 3.3kW AC charger. It is also worth mentioning that the MG Comet EV does not support fast charging.
In comparison, the top-spec variant of the Tata Tiago EV can charge to 100 per cent capacity in just 3 hours and 36 minutes using a 7.2kW AC charger. However, using a suitable DC charger, the charging time is reduced to just 57 minutes (10 to 80 per cent).
Dimensions: The MG Comet EV measures just 2,974mm long, 1,505mm wide, 1,613mm tall, and sports a wheelbase of just 2,010mm. In comparison, the Tata Tiago EV is 795mm longer, 172mm wider, 77mm shorter, and sports a 390mm longer wheelbase.
Price: MG Motor India launched the MG Comet EV at a special introductory price of Rs 7.98 lakh (ex-showroom). In comparison, prices for the Tata Tiago EV starts from Rs 8.69 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes all the way up to Rs 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
Thoughts About MG Comet EV & Tata Tiago EV
A comparison of the MG Comet EV with the Tata Tiago EV shows that the former is designed from the ground up to be a city car, whereas the latter seems to be a more rounded offering with more space, better range, and most importantly its ability to charge using a fast charger.
