Spy Pics: MG Air EV Spotted Testing Again In India - Looks Production Ready
Chinese-owned British carmaker MG is back at work testing its tiny Air EV microcar in India. The MG Air EV was spied testing in Vadodara, Gujarat and looks more than ready to hit the streets.
The MG Air EV was expected by many to make its India debut at last month's Auto Expo 2023. However, the British carmaker opted not to bring the electric microcar to the auto show where it showed off many alternative green vehicles.
The MG Air EV is in essence a rebranded version of the Wuling Air EV that is sold in markets like Indonesia and SIAC's (MG's owners) home base of China. The India-spec Air EV from MG will keep the design cues found on the electric microcar in international markets.
At the front, the MG Air sports a full-width lightbar-style daytime running lights which connect up with the shiny trim found on the mirrors. Underneath the DRL sits the charging port door that will host the MG badge on the India-spec car.
The headlights of the MG air can be found lower down on the sides of the front bumper. The LED units are vertically stacked on top of each other with the turn indicators sitting a bit further below.
The sides of the MG Air feature large single doors that allow access to the four-seater microcar's cabin. The microcar rides on a set of tiny alloys. At the rear, the taillights are placed just above the bumper and are what appear to be LED units.
The latest spy shots of the MG Air confirm what we already know about the car's interior. The dashboard of the microcar is dominated by a large twin-screen setup with displays for the instrumentation and infotainment.
MG has not revealed any details about the MG Air's powertrain for the Indian market. However, the electric microcar from MG is expected to be offered with a choice of two battery packs that will deliver claimed ranges of 200 and 300km respectively. The battery packs will power a single electric motor that drives the front wheels and both power packs will support fast DC charging.
Thoughts About The MG Air
British carmaker threw everyone off by not showcasing the Air EV microcar at Auto Expo 2023. However, with the electric microcar still undergoing testing on our roads and looking more production-ready than ever it could be only a few months away from hitting our streets for good.
