Mercedes Vision One-Eleven Debuts; 70s Design Reinterpreted & Motors Revolutionized

German luxury carmaker Mercedes has revealed the Vision One-Eleven. The Mercedes Vision One-Eleven concept features a design inspired by a 1970s concept car and revolutionary motor tech.

The Mercedes Vision One-Eleven is the sixth 'Vision' concept car from the German luxury carmaker. The new Vision car reinterprets the design of the C111 concept car from the 1970s.

The exterior is out there with the concept electric car sitting just 1,170mm above the ground. The digital face that has become the design highlight for new Merc EVs is represented here as well and it houses round LED headlights. There is a massive splitter and signs of ventage at the front.

The sides are dominated by the massive gullwing doors of Vision One-Eleven. However, there is more for your eyes to feast on here in the form of the large wheels that house the new motors and the blade-like side skirts.

The rear section of the Mercedes Vision One-Eleven features another digital fascia as well, a digital rear if your will, which houses the round LED taillights and is surrounded by what appears to be a large brake light.

Also seen is a massive rear diffuser that will make F1 cars green with envy. The entire concept car except for the aero bits is finished in a bright orange shade dubbed "copper-orange alubeam".

The cabin of the Vision One-Eleven concept car is as out there as its gullwing doors. The interiors feature a silver and orange theme that is definitely for those with an aversion to insanely vibrant colours.

There is a large screen that stretches across the dash. Rather than making it look like a modern screen, Mercedes has given it an orange pixelated, an obvious to the tech that the C111 was known to test.

However, this isn't the only screen inside this garishly loud interior. A smaller central touchscreen with modern display tech acts as the infotainment unit and there is a rectangular steering wheel similar to the ones on the AMG One.

The other big talking point of the Mercedes Vision One-Eleven is its two axial flux motors. Developed by British firm YASA (purchased by Mercedes in July 2021), these axial flux motors are significantly lighter and more compact yet more powerful than radial-flux motors currently used in almost all EVs.

These revolutionary axial flux motors are one-third the size and weight of current radial flux motors. These axial flux motors are more efficient than current radial flux motors because the electromagnetic flow runs parallel to the motor's rotational axis. In current radial motors, this flow is perpendicular to the motor's rotational axis.

Thoughts About The Mercedes Vision One-Eleven Concept

The Mercedes Vision One-Eleven concept pays homage to the iconic C111 concept from the 1970s while previewing new motor tech that could revolutionise EV packaging. Fingers crossed, we'll see them soon on an AMG.
