Mercedes-AMG G 63 Grand Edition & G500 Final Edition Revealed: Almost The End?

German luxury carmaker Mercedes has revealed the limited-run G500 Final Edition and the G 63 Grand Edition SUVs. The G500 Final Edition is limited to 1,500 units, while the AMG G 63 Grand Edition is even rarer at 1,000 units.

The G500 Final Edition marks 30 years since that version of the G Wagen first sported the iconic V8 engine under its boxy front end in 1993. Unfortunately, the Final Edition marks the last time we'll see AMG's 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 in the G500.

Under the bonnet of the G500 Final Edition, the iconic engine from Affalterbach produces 416bhp and 610Nm of torque, the same as the regular G500. However, the limited-run SUV gets a few design highlights that help distinguish it from the 'normal' G500.

These design highlights include the 20-inch AMG wheels, Final Edition lettering on the door sills and passenger door grab handles. The limited-run SUV also gets Superior line treatment as standard with the Burmester surround sound system and two-tone Manufaktur Nappa leather upholstery.

The G500 Final Edition is offered in three colour options - Obsidian Black and Manufaktur Opalith White Magno or Olive Magno - each of which is limited to 500 units.

The Mercedes-AMG G 63 Grand Edition is limited to just 1,000 units and sports a contrasting exterior colour package that really shows off the distinctive design elements of the Geländewagen.

This limited-run AMG G 63 Grand Edition sports the Manufaktur Night Black Magno paint scheme along with highlights in gold. These gold highlights include the large Mercedes 3-pointed star on the grille, which along with the AMG badging, are finished in Kalahari Gold Magno.

The 22-inch forged AMG wheels, too, feature a Tech Gold paint scheme and black centre caps. The interiors feature more of the same, with black upholstery contrasted by gold stitching. The carbon-fibre trim features copper thread, and there is a 'Grand Editon' badge on the grab handle situated on the dash.

The Prices for these limited-run G Wagens are also eye-watering, with the G500 Final Edition sporting a 196,350 euros (Rs 1.76 crore) starting price tag while the G 63 Grand Edition is even dearer starting at 228,896.40 euros (Rs 2.05 crore) in Europe.

Thoughts On The Limited Run G Wagens

The Mercedes G500 is both a celebration and a goodbye to the V8 engine's relationship with that specific version of the SUV. The G 63 Grand Edition, on the other hand, highlights the G Wagen's boxy looks.
