The Manhart SL 700 R Is A Mercedes Roadster On Steroids
German tuning firm Manhart has gotten its hands on the Mercedes-AMG SL 63 and turned the madness up to 11. The tuned version of Affalterbach's drop-top beauty has been dubbed the Manhart SL 700 R.
So just what exactly has Manhart done to Affalterbach's newest creation to turn it into the 700 R? Well, apart from the usual black and gold colour scheme, the Manhart SL 700 R sports some rather nice wheels and a host of upgrades to the engine and a new exhaust.
The changes to the engine are quite a lot. Manhart has fitted the AMG's finest 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with some upgraded bits. The air filter has been upgraded, as have the intercoolers for the two turbochargers, and the firm has also fitted the SL with its plug-and-play MHtronik Powerbox.
The results of the upgrades mean that the AMG V8 now produces 697bhp and 935Nm of peak torque, which is up by 120Nm and 135Nm from the SL 63's 577bhp and 800Nm output.
The increased grunt from the engine has meant that Manhart has had to upgrade the AMG 9-speed automatic gearbox to help it send power down to the tarmac through all four wheels.
Speaking of the wheels, Manhart has ripped out the Merc-AMG units for a set from Forged Line. These Manhart Forged Line wheels measure 10x22 inches at the front and 12x22 inches at the rear and are shod with Hankook Ventus S1 Evo2 rubber. The Hankook tyres measure 295/30 at the front axle and 335/25 at the rear.
Manhart is also offering customers not situated in Germany the option to fit an upgraded exhaust system which features sport downpipes that delete the OPF sensors and feature 600-cell catalytic converters for a more vocal and free-flowing sound signature.
Manhart is also offering to tune up the stock brakes and suspension system, depending on individual owner preferences. The interior is also customizable on request.

The Manhart 700 R takes the already mad Mercedes-AMG SL 63 and dials the craziness to a new level of insanity. This is a roadster for those who feel AMG has gone soft.
