Mahindra Thar 5 Door - To Be Launched In 2024; Rumours Shot Down

For the past few days, rumours have been spreading about the debut of the Mahindra Thar 5-door in August of this year. However, Mahindra has clarified this for us through a post on Instagram with a message saying we can only expect the 5-door Thar in 2024.

Mahindra confirmed that the Thar 5-door will only be launched in 2024, so unveiling the car in August of 2023 seems very unlikely. This was officially announced by Mahindra during the Quarter Results meeting that had taken place this year.

The 5-Door Thar has been spotted testing on numerous occasions, and judging by the photos we can say that it will come with a metal roof and a sunroof. Also, it will most likely be launched with the same powertrain options as the previous model: a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel engine.

Overall, the design of the Mahindra Thar 5-door remains almost exactly the same as its 3-door sister. It features the same upright, box-like design. The only visible change is the addition of two rear doors which will make entering and exiting the car easier for the rear passengers. Also, the handles for the rear door are located on the C-Pillar of the SUV.

Additionally, the Thar 5-door has been seen with rectangular headlamps while the 3-door version comes with circular lights. Also, a new set of alloy wheels are expected to feature on the updated version of the Mahindra Thar.

Finally, the Mahindra Thar 5-door version was spotted with an automatic transmission but no 4x4 lever present. This goes to tell us that the new Thar may only come with a 2WD system, with the rear wheels powering the car. Being an off-road designed vehicle, the Thar might come with Scorpio N's 4x4 system.

A lot of speculation has been going around regarding the launch of the Mahindra Thar 5-Door, but Mahindra shot down all the conspiracies with an official notice stating when to expect the launch. The majority of the people are getting very eager for the new Thar, especially after seeing how well the previous model did. This new version will improve the practicality aspect for passengers who will be seated at the back of the car. The launch is set to take place next year, in 2024.
