Spy Pics: Mahindra BE.05 Spotted Testing

Mahindra's upcoming BE.05 electric SUV coupe has been spotted testing in the wild for the very first time. The Mahindra BE.05 was revealed to the world last August.

A fully camouflaged test mule (not that it was really hiding that much) of the Mahindra BE.05 was spotted on the roads in Chennai near the firm's Mahindra Research Valley facilities.

At first glance, nothing seems to have changed on the test mule of the all-electric SUV coupe which is a part of the lineup of EVs that will be sold by Mahindra's EV sub-brand Born Electric (BE).However, take a closer look at the images of the BE.05 test vehicle and the changes, while not many, become a lot more visible, especially when you start looking for them.

Well for one, the bonnet seems a lot more smoother than the one on the concept vehicle. This smoothening effect can also be seen on the other body panels of the test mule that are visible in these spy images.

Another rather visible change is the fact that the BE.05 test mule features proper outside rear-view mirrors rather than the cameras that were seen last August.

A more noticeable change is the windows that look a lot more conventional than the angular ones fitted to the concept that looked like they would be a pain to put into production. The concept's wheels too have been replaced by more conventional units.

Thankfully not everything has changed from the concept to this test mule. The Mahindra BE.05 still retains those C-shaped LED daytime running lights that captivated back in August 2022 and the front end still looks as funky as ever.

The production-spec BE.05 is expected to retain the overall footprint of the concept vehicle shown last year. The BE.05 concept was a mid-sized SUV coupe that was 4,370mm long, 1,900mm wide, 1,635mm tall and sported a 2,775mm long wheelbase.

The BE.05 like the other BE models from Mahindra is based on the IN GLO skateboard platform for EVs. The BE.05 is expected to sport battery packs ranging from 60 to 80kWh with 175kWh charging speeds when it arrives in 2025. The range is expected to be up to 450km for the larger battery pack.

Thoughts On The Mahindra BE.05

The Mahindra BE.05 test mule shows that the form is going full steam ahead with its EV lineup for the future. Let's hope by the time the BE.05 comes out that Tata hasn't taken full control of our EV market.
