A typical car battery can easily last for 5 years without giving you any trouble. However, after this time, the car may show some signs to replace the current battery. As such, here is how you can change car battery.
For starters, changing the rocking battery is a fairly simple and straightforward process involving simple tools. In fact, changing the car battery on your own can help you save some additional money on labour charges.
Know The Car Battery
Before you buy a new car battery from e-commerce websites or local battery shops, it is very important to know the specifications of the car battery you are about to replace. For this, you can either look for specifications on the battery pack or the user manual.
Locate The Old Battery
Not all cars have batteries placed under the bonnet. Some cars have batteries placed in the boot for better weight distribution. For this, you can check the user manual of the car or even contact the service centre.
Disconnect The Terminals
Once you have located the car battery, it is time to disconnect the terminals. All battery packs have two terminals - One connected to a black wire, and the other connected to a red wire, the latter is the positive terminal.
Cleaning
Once you have removed the old battery from the car, it is time to clean the battery terminals. This is because the battery terminal connectors sometimes corrode, which is not good for the efficiency of the connectors.
As such, it is widely recommended to clean the battery terminal connector and battery tray. This ensures a proper supply of current from the battery pack and vice-versa. Also, having clean connectors ensure better battery life as well.
Install New Battery
Once the connectors and battery tray have been cleaned, the new battery pack can be installed. While installing make sure you connect the black wire to the negative terminal and the red wire to the positive terminal of the new battery pack.
It is also worth mentioning that the battery connectors should be firmly connected to the battery terminals to avoid any sparks and unnecessary power loss. After this, it is all about firmly securing the battery pack.
