1,016bhp Ferrari SF90 XX Stradale & SF90 XX Spider Revealed: You Can't Have One
Italian supercar manufacturer Ferrari has revealed SF90 XX Stradale and the SF90 XX Spider. The Ferrari SF90 XX Stradale & Spider are the first road-going models to bear the 'XX' experimental tag.
The new SF90 XX Stradale & XX Spider models will be made in limited numbers. The SF90 XX Stradale is limited to 799 units, while the SF90 XX Spider is even rarer at 599 units.
Ferrari has increased the power output from the hybrid powertrain by 30bhp, but the changes these two XX cars bring over the regular versions can be seen in the changes made to the aero, bodywork, and interiors.
Let's talk about the hybrid powertrain first. The engine in the two new XX models has been optimised so that it now produces 786bhp, which is 13bhp more than the regular cars. The three electric motors now crank out 230bhp, which is 17bhp more than the standard SF90. Overall, power has risen by 30bhp to 1,016bhp.
In qualifying mode, the SF90 XX Stradale & Spider gain access to the firm's new 'Extra Boost' control logic, which guarantees additional power in short bursts. There are 30 bursts of extra boost on offer, and these are deployed at full throttle when steering input is minimal.
In qualifying mode, the SF90 Stradale can sprint from 0-100km/h in just 2.3 seconds and hit 200km/h from a standstill in 6.5 seconds. The SF90 XX Spider is slightly slower to 200km/h with a time of 6.7 seconds. Both cars have a top speed of 320km/h.
The changes to the exterior and aero are a lot more noticeable thanks to the launch colour schemes Ferrari used for the launch of the cars.
At the front, the new SF90 XX sports a much larger front splitter element, and the twin S-ducts help the front end produce 20 per cent more downforce at the front than the regular SF90.
To balance this, Ferrari has fitted the SF90 XX with a massive fixed spoiler, the first on a Ferrari road car since the F50 from the 1990s. The car also features a shut-off gurney which, when deployed, helps reduce drag allowing drivers to hit the 320km/h top speed.
Other features on the SF90 XX that help with the aero include louvres on the front and rear wheelarches that help relieve the pressure there. The underbody of the SF90 XX is sealed off as well, and the diffuser looks different as well compared to the SF90.
All these changes have resulted in the new SF90XX producing 530 kilogrammes of downforce at 250km/h. The changes have also led to a few design tweaks, which include the new lightbar style taillights that really emphasise just how wide the new cars are.
The interiors, like those on other special Ferrari versions, are a lot more stripped out. There is more carbon fibre around, the door cards and the trim look a lot more simple, and the dash features Alcantara, while the seats are carbon buckets.
Thoughts About The Ferrari SF90 XX Stradale & SF90 XX Spider
The Ferrari SF90 XX Stradale & SF90 XX Spider see the experimental XX tag arrive on a road car for the first time, and the new cars feature a lot more aero compared to the regular versions of themselves. The fact that Ferrari has allowed a fixed rear wing to return for the first time since the F50 tells you just how mad these road-going XXs are.
