5 Tips To Buy A Good Used Car – Buyer’s Guide
Though banks are offering attractive financial schemes, buying a new car might not be financially ideal for everyone. In this situation, a used car might be a more feasible option.
However, buying a good used car is not as straightforward as one may think. The car someone is selling may have an inherent issue or it may have been involved in an accident. As such, here are 5 tips to buy a good used car.
Shortlisting Models
Prices of used cars can be extremely attractive. In fact, there are many used premium cars can that sell for the price of a new premium hatchback or there are large SUVs that usually sell for prices lower than the most affordable hatchback in India.
While prices may look attractive, almost all of these premium cars and large SUVs come with enormous maintenance costs. So, it is advisable to shortlist models according to your requirement rather than choosing any car that fits your budget.
Checking The Condition
Once you have selected the used car, you have to make a thorough check-up of the car. If you do not have the technical knowledge, you can also seek professional help to check the condition of the car.
Some of the major checks include looking for accidental damage, water damage, rust formation, inspection of suspension and steering, checking the condition of the powertrain and electricals, and looking for unusual wear and tear on tyres.
Take A Test Drive
Even though some used cars may look healthy, they can show weaknesses while driving. As such, it is best to take a test drive to check if there are any underlying problems in the car. Furthermore, test drives will also give you a good feel for the car.
After the test drive, if you are not feeling right or have small doubts regarding the condition of the car, it is best to avoid that car and commence the search for a good search again.
Check Maintainance Records
Once you find the used car to be in good condition and suits your driving, it is now time to check for the maintenance record of the car. Though it is not unusual for some car owners not to maintain service records, some car owners tend to keep every bill for the service.
Finding a car with a good maintenance record is a great buy. Such cars are sometimes difficult to find but they also tend to have better reliability and hence give you better peace of mind.
Check Documents
Checking the documents is probably the most crucial step while buying a used car. As such, it is always best to verify the authenticity of the RC (registration certificate) of the car along with other supporting documents such as insurance.
Thoughts About Buying A Used Car
Buying a used car is not a bad decision at all, that is if you could buy a good used car. Moreover, the reduced financial burden that usually comes with buying a used car is always a boon.
